Disneyland Paris

Disneyland Paris, originally Euro Disney Resort, is an entertainment resort inMarne-la-Vallée, a new town located 32 km (20 mi) east of the centre of Paris, and is the most visited theme park in all of France and Europe. It is owned and operated by Euro Disney S.C.A., a publicly traded company in which The Walt Disney Company owns a majority stake. The resort covers 4,800 acres (19 km) and encompasses two theme parks, several resort hotels, a shopping, dining, and entertainment complex, and a golf course, in addition to several additional recreational and entertainment venues. Disneyland Park is the original theme park of the complex, opening with the resort on 12 April 1992. A second theme park, Walt Disney Studios Park, opened in 2002. The resort is the second Disney park to open outside the United States, following the opening of the Tokyo Disney Resort in 1983.

Hotel de Ville

Until 1141 when water merchants created the port de Grève (Shore Harbour) to relieve Paris's busy port, the site was merely a shingle beach. The square near the harbour was known as the 'place de Grève'. In 1246 the first municipality was created when the Parisian trade guilds elected aldermen as representatives towards the King. There was no municipal building until 1357 when one of the aldermen, a water merchant, bought a house near the place de Grève. The two-storied building featured two towers and arcades. Known as the House of Pillars, it served as a meeting place for the aldermen. In 1553 King Francis I decided to build a dedicated city Hall. That first Hôtel de Ville, designed in the Renaissance style, was only fully completed in 1628.

Pont Alexandre III

The Ponte Alexandre III is considered by many to be one of the prettiest bridges in Paris. The bridge is located south of the Champs Elysees at the southern end of Avenue Winston Churchill in the 7th and 8th arrondissements. It crosses the Seine river and leads to Les Invalides, the final resting place of Napoleon. The bridge has four granite columns, two on each side of the river, which help it anchor the piers that support its single span. The columns are topped by gilded statues of the Fames. On the Right Bank are the Fame of the Science and the Fame of the Arts. Statues of Contemporary France and France of Charlemagne are at their bases. On the columns of the Left Bank, there are the Fames of Commerce and Industry. Beneath them there are sculptures of the Renaissance and Louis XIV. Groups of lions also adorn the ends of the bridge. The lions on the Right Bank were designed by George Gardet and the lions on the Left Bank are by Jules Dalou.
